The Greek Implied Volatility Index: Construction and Properties
نویسنده
چکیده
There is a growing literature on implied volatility indices in developed markets. However, no similar research has been conducted in the context of emerging markets. In this paper, an implied volatility index (GVIX) is constructed for the fast developing Greek derivatives market. Next, the properties of GVIX are explored. In line with earlier results, GVIX can be interpreted as a gauge of the investors sentiment. In addition, we find that the underlying stock market can forecast the future movements of GVIX. However, the reverse relationship does not hold. Finally, a contemporaneous spillover between GVIX and the US volatility indices VXO and VXN is detected. The results have implications for portfolio management. JEL Classification: G10, G11, G13, G15.

Risk measurement and Implied volatility under Minimal Entropy Martingale Measure for Levy process
This paper focuses on two main issues that are based on two important concepts: exponential Levy process and minimal entropy martingale measure. First, we intend to obtain risk measurement such as value-at-risk (VaR) and conditional value-at-risk (CvaR) using Monte-Carlo methodunder minimal entropy martingale measure (MEMM) for exponential Levy process. This Martingale measure is used for the...
متن کاملCREATES Research Paper 2007-24 Construction and Interpretation of Model-Free Implied Volatility
The notion of model-free implied volatility (MFIV), constituting the basis for the highly publicized VIX volatility index, can be hard to measure with accuracy due to the lack of precise prices for options with strikes in the tails of the return distribution. This is reflected in practice as the VIX index is computed through a tail-truncation which renders it more compatible with the related co...

متن کاملThe Discursive Construction of Ethnic Identities: The Case of Greek-Cypriot Students
This study examines how Greek-Cypriot students aged 12 to 18, an understudied group of students, construct their ethnic identity in a complex setting such as Cyprus and what motivates the students in the selection of ethnic identity labels. The choice to focus on students aged 12-18 was made on the hypothesis that young children, who did not experience the 1974 war in Cyprus, may have a differe...
متن کامل" Forecasting Stock Market Volatility and the Application of Volatility Trading Models "
This paper examines the ability of GARCH(1,1) and GARCH(1,1) + Implied Volatility models to forecast stock market volatility on the FTSE100 index. Comparing the volatility forecasts with the implied volatility of the corresponding at-the-money index option contract, it is investigated whether successful volatility trading models can be developed. An at-the-money index call was bought/sold if th...
